SAN DIEGO — The USS Midway Foundation announced Thursday that it is awarding $696,000 in grants to 33 local and national organizations which serve veterans, active-duty military personnel and their families, and first responders.  

Foundation representatives were joined for the announcement by the director and several actors from the film “Midway” which debuts Friday.

More than 80% will go to local organizations, according to the foundation which made the announcement ahead of Veterans Day. The organizations that will receive the grants address diverse issues in San Diego including wounded-veteran housing and human trafficking.
