SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - One week ago, a three-alarm fire ripped through more than a dozen apartments and a couple of businesses in Hillcrest. Now life for those fire victims is far from back to normal. On Wednesday, a fundraiser was held to try and help.

Community members and fire victims gathered at Jimmy Carter's Mexican Cafe in Hillcrest to raise money for the 12 people who were left homeless by last week's fire. By the end of the night, they had raised nearly $7,000.

Mayor Jerry Sanders came to show his support for the victims and thank organizers. He told News 8, "A group of community individuals saw people in need and threw this together really quickly and I think it's important to recognize what they're doing."
