NEW YORK (AP) — New York City police have begun arresting Occupy Wall Street protesters who are marching on Seventh Avenue after many were arrested in trying to take a vacant lot for a new campsite.
At least two people were tackled and handcuffed Saturday. Protesters got out of the street and some 200 continued to march to Times Square under a heavy police presence.
Police arrested 50 people earlier Saturday after protesters scaled a fence or climbed under it to get to a Trinity Church-owned lot. Their original campsite has been closed, but the church says its vacant lot would not be safe for an Occupy camp.
