OCEANSIDE (CNS) - Oceanside's only off-leash dog park reopened Wednesday after being closed for a month for renovations, the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA announced.

The San Diego Humane Society redesigned the park with funds from the PETCO Foundation, to provide a fun, healthy and educational location where people and their dogs can enjoy spending quality time together, Humane Society spokeswoman Kelli Herwehe said.

Renovations to the park at 2905 San Luis Rey Road, include Astroturf play yards for both large and small dogs, gazebo areas, drinking fountains for dogs and portable restrooms, Herwehe said. Informative and educational signs were also placed throughout the park.

"Supporting the animal-loving community is an integral part of our overall mission," said Renee Harris, vice president of the San Diego Human Society. "Beyond the adoption of animals, the vision of the Humane Society is to provide a range of opportunities for the community to enjoy their companion animals and experience that special connection called the human-animal bond."

The dog park is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
