SAN DIEGO (NEWS 8) - At least one person was killed Saturday morning in a crash on northbound Interstate 5 near 28th street in Logan Heights involving a wrong-way driver.

San Diego Fire-Rescue firefighters received reports of a crash at around 12:15 a.m. Crews arrived to find two vehicles engulfed in flames, and one person deceased at the scene.

SDFD said a Porsche drove onto northbound I-5 traveling south and collided with a Western Towing truck. The driver of the Porsche was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The car was severely damaged, almost beyond recognition, it also was on fire - both vehicles were on fire," said Battalion Chief Ted Moran. "Once the fire was extinguished, it was fairly obvious there was a deceased driver inside."

The 40-year-old tow truck driver suffered severe burns and traumatic injuries and was transported to UCSD Hospital.

This was the second deadly wrong-way crash in 24 hours.

Two drivers were killed in a similar crash in Oceanside early Friday.
