Opening statements in trial of former teacher accused of molestation

Opening statements are expected Wednesday in the trial of a former East County elementary school teacher accused of molesting young girls while they were students in his classroom.

EL CAJON (CNS) - Opening statements are expected Wednesday in the trial of a former East County elementary school teacher accused of molesting young girls while they were students in his classroom.

Robert Noel Anderson, 59, is charged with molesting eight girls while teaching the fourth and sixth grades at Dehesa Elementary School between 2003 and 2006, the year he left his teaching job.

Several women testified at a preliminary hearing last year that Anderson touched them inappropriately as they sat on his lap in class. He was arrested a year ago after a criminal complaint and warrant were issued in the case.

The defendant is charged with 12 counts of committing a lewd act on a child and multiple victim allegations. He faces a maximum of 180 years to life in prison if convicted.
