LA JOLLA (CNS/CBS 8) - A charter bus from Mexico caught fire on Interstate 5 in La Jolla Thursday, but no one was injured.

The fire was reported at 8:25 p.m. on the northbound side of the freeway near Nobel Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The driver told authorities he had just picked up people downtown and was heading to Los Angeles when he noticed smoke coming from the back of the bus.

He pulled over and all 28 passengers -- including several children -- got off safely.

Investigators believe the fire started in the engine compartment. The exact cause is under investigation.
