San Diego police said they have arrested a man they're calling a person of interest in connection with two home invasion robberies in Carmel Valley.

The suspect was taken into custody on an unrelated charge. The arrest came on the same day police met with residents, ensuring an increased police presence in the area.

Both home invasions occurred within the last month. One was on Whispering Hills Road on Feb. 10, and the other last Wednesday on Carmel View Road.

In both cases, police said, the suspect entered through an open garage, forced himself in by knifepoint and tied up both female victims, sexually assaulting one of them.

Police said a composite sketch of the suspect in Wednesday's home invasion is expected to be released later Friday.
