RAMONA (CNS) - Bails of hay caught fire at a pet store in downtown Ramona early Monday, and flames spread to two nearby homes, damaging the structures and displacing four people, authorities said.

The non-injury fire at Kahoots Feed & Pet Store at 947 Main St. was reported at 2:37 a.m., said a Cal Fire dispatcher. It was contained at 4:12 a.m., after it spread to the homes.

Two adults and two children were displaced, she said.

Flames also threatened power lines and a pair of nearby propane tanks for a time.

Though the fire was out, bails of hay were smoldering and a large column of smoke lingered in the area.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
