Authorities are searching for the source of a bundle of cash that ended up on a Mission Valley freeway Saturday.

The money found along northbound state Route 163 near the Interstate 8 offramp was reported about 5 p.m. Saturday blowing along the road, San Diego police Officer Brad Ruff told the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Police driving in the area spotted clothing and debris near the cash, the newspaper reported.

Traffic was stopped on the northbound 163 for about 15 minutes while officers recovered the money, along with a bank deposit bag with checks and receipts, Ruff told the newspaper, adding that no robberies were reported in the area.

Attempts were made to locate the owner of the paperwork that was recovered, but police have not determined where the money came from.
