Police seek hit-and-run driver who struck bicyclist in Encinitas

Police are still searching for a hit-and-run driver who seriously injured a bicyclist in Encinitas early Sunday morning.

ENCINITAS (CBS8/CNS) - Police are still searching for a hit-and-run driver who seriously injured a bicyclist in Encinitas early Sunday morning. 

The hit-and-run collision happened at about 6:45 a.m. Sunday on eastbound Leucadia Boulevard, when a white SUV swerved into the dedicated bike lane, hit the bicyclist and kept on going eastbound, Deputy Michael Power said.

The 43-year-old man on the bike was still conscious when he was taken by ambulance to Scripps La Jolla hospital with serious injuries to his leg, face and lower back, Power said. The injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
   
No suspect information was available as of Sunday afternoon and the investigation was ongoing, according to Power.
   
The collision was being investigated by the North Coastal Sheriff's Station Traffic Division.
