SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A man accused of jumping behind the wheel of a police cruiser and hitting a San Diego police officer was in court Friday.

Prosecutors say officer Jeffrey Swett was investigating a burglary in Barrio Logan in January when William Bogard ran him over. Officer Swett suffered multiple broken bones and significant head injuries.

Bogard has pleaded not guilty. Now, a judge will decide if there is enough evidence for a trial.

Bogard faces 19 years to life. The preliminary hearing will continue Monday.
