WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama is set to unveil New Hampshire Senator Judd Gregg as his choice for commerce secretary today.
If confirmed, Gregg would be the third Republican in the Obama Cabinet, but this choice is a little more political than the first two. Gregg made it clear he wouldn't take the job if his replacement would help give Democrats a filibuster-proof Senate majority.
New Hampshire's Democratic Governor John Lynch confirms there's an "understanding" that he'll nominate a Republican replacement. It's expected to be Bonnie Newman, a former chief of staff to Gregg, who would serve the remaining two years of his term and not run for another.
