SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two branch offices housing the San Diego County Assessor/Recorder/Clerk and Tax Collector reopened Tuesday, after being shuttered for about 18 months because of budget cutbacks.

The affected offices are at 9225 Clairemont Mesa Blvd. in Kearny Mesa, and at 590 Third Ave. in Chula Vista.

The offices were closed in July 2009 to save money.

A short reopening ceremony was held at the Chula Vista location, which helped about 1,500 customers per week before it was closed.

"We could not have started the year in a better way," said Dan McAllister, the county treasurer-tax collector. "I am proud our taxpayers now have a convenient full-service tax office located closer to their home or business. The goal is for our taxpayers to receive a high level of customer

service, while saving time and money."

The Assessor/Recorder/Clerk's branch offices offer certified copies of birth, death and marriage certificates and fictitious business name statements. They will not have any recording, marriage licenses or wedding services for the time being.

McAllister has been working in recent weeks with Ernie Dronenberg, the new assessor/recorder/clerk, to streamline the functions of their offices.

"We are extremely pleased to have accomplished the reorganization of our departments," Dronenburg said. "This has allowed us to provide efficient and convenient service to the people of San Diego County without incurring additional employee costs to the taxpayers."

Branch offices also are located in El Cajon and San Marcos, and the services are available at the County Administration Building on Pacific Highway.
