SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Lifeguards help keep us safe in the water and Saturday the Mission Beach community and local political leaders honored two of its finest.
Daryl McDonald has been a full-time lifeguard for 28 years and received the permanent "Lifeguard of the Year" award.
Tore Blichfeldt, who is a full-time teacher and has been a lifeguard during the summer for the past 18 years, was honored with the seasonal "Lifeguard of the Year" award.
The event was held as part of the grand re-opening ceremony for Swell Cafe and and the owners plan to make it an annual tradition.
