MURRIETA, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a mother who lost custody of two children in 2008 will lose a third child after the infant was left alone and mauled by dogs.
Murrieta police Sgt. Jim Ganley says San Diego County Child Protective Services has obtained a court order to take the baby away from Carrie McKinney of Point Loma.
Police say two large dogs tore off the 6-month-old's diaper and bit his scrotum last Saturday after his mother left the baby alone in a carrier on the floor at a friend's home in Murrieta.
The child was rushed to the hospital where he underwent surgery. Police do not have an update on the child's condition and McKinney could not immediately be reached for comment Friday.
It was not immediately clear why McKinney lost custody of her other children.
