A controversial plan involving San Diego Gas & Electric is heating up once again.

SDG&E hopes new evidence will help support its proposal to shut off power to the back country during Santa Ana windstorms.

According to a new report, 167 fires have been caused by electrical problems in the past five and a half years.

Thirteen of those 167 fires reportedly took place during strong winds.

Many people who live in the back country and the fire districts in that region oppose a plan to shut off power.

The Public Utilities Commission is scheduled to hold tow public hearings next month and could make a final decision in August.
