SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Warm temperatures have been spiking across San Diego County the last few weeks and people aren't the only ones enjoying the local beaches and the ocean during the hot spells.

While many whale watchers have already enjoyed seeing Humpbacks off the coast of San Diego for a new months now, the first Blue Whale of the season was spotted off the coast of San Diego.

The Blue Whale was seen about seven miles Southwest of Mission Bay.

The Privateer was out Tuesday on its daily whale watching excursion when those on board saw five different Blue Whales. The first of the season.

Blue Whales are the largest animals on the planet.

On Wednesday, whale watchers struck gold again, when three more Blue Whales were spotted.

Watchers also spotted a big group of dolphins, also considered a mega pod. A mega pod consists of 2,000 to 3,000 dolphins, and it is unusual to see.
