PHOENIX (AP) — Authorities say one person is dead and another seriously injured after a small plane crashed in the front yard of a northeast Phoenix home.
Both people were on board the plane, which missed hitting any nearby homes in the residential area near the suburb of Scottsdale.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says the single-engine Cirrus SR22 crashed just after 10 a.m. Thursday about a half-mile short of the Scottsdale airport's runway. Law enforcement officials told the FAA that one person was killed and one seriously hurt.
The Cirrus was built in 2005 and registered to a company in Pinetop, Ariz. It was destroyed by fire.
Images from a helicopter operated by KTVK-TV in Phoenix showed a plume of smoke rising from the scene. Teams placed a black shroud over the plane to cover up the wreckage.
