SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A driver died after a fiery crash in Del Mar.
Police said a 25-year-old woman was driving a Toyota 4Runner at a high rate of speed eastbound on Via de la Valle around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday when she lost control.
The car veered off the road and down an embankment before bursting into flames.
Officers had to follow the smoke to find the wreck.
"It took officers a bit of time to find the accident because it was down the embankment. Law enforcement helicopter was able to spot the smoky fire and help guide the officers in," explained Lt. Dan Smyth with the San Diego Police Department.
Rescuers said by the time they arrived on the scene, the car was fully-engulfed. The driver couldn't be saved, and her name has not been released.
