One of three Republican state senators who broke ranks with their party to help pass the California budget is now a political target.

As the final swing vote to end the budget impasse, Sen. Abel Maldonado was lauded by some as a compromiser.

However, Maldonado's vote has also prompted a grassroots effort to recall him.

Recall organizer and former U.S. Congressman Ernest Konnyu admits the effort is a long-shot.

Maldonado's office has not responded to the recall campaign.
