CHULA VISTA (CNS) - The Sweetwater Union High School District is seeking community members to fill six positions on the Proposition O Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee.

The nine-seat committee was created to monitor bond expenditures on Proposition O construction projects. Proposition O was approved by voters in November 2006 to issue $644 million in general obligation bonds to fund construction projects and modernization at the district's campuses and facilities.

The district is seeking a parent-teacher organization member, a business organization member, a senior citizen organization member and a member of a bona fide taxpayer association. Also, two at-large positions are open to district residents, according to Lillian Leopold, SUHDS spokeswoman.

Four positions are vacant and two are filled by members whose terms end in April.

Committee members must be over 18 and may not include district employees and officials or any vendor, contractor or consultant to the district, the application states.
