VISTA (NEWS 8) - A 24-year-old man suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol was in custody Friday after authorities said he crashed into two joggers in Vista, killing one of them and seriously injuring the other.

Nanglis Vang and his 34-year-old wife Molly were out for their nightly jog together along South Melrose Drive just before 6:30 p.m. when deputies say the suspected drunk driver lost control of his SUV. He barreled off the roadway and on to the sidewalk hitting the couple.
After striking Vang and his wife, the driver then crashed into a light pole, said Sgt. H. Gonzalez of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

Nanglis died at the scene on the eve of his 41st birthday and Molly was taken to Palomar Medical Center with serious injuries, Gonzalez said.

The family is now mourning his untimely loss saying instead of planning his birthday party, they are now planning a funeral.

Nanglis was a devoted stay-at-home dad to his five children - the youngest is only 2 years old.

His family members said Nanglis was the only one in the family with hazel eyes and that he had a beautiful soul.

"[He was] just a very, very good man - very humble, very kind," said Nanglis' sister Youa Vang. "[He was] taken from us too soon"

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with Nanglis' funeral arrangements.

Molly's injuries included a broken collarbone and ribs along with a collapsed lung. She is expected to survive.

After the driver of the SUV was freed from his vehicle, he was was also transported to Palomar Medical Center with serious injuries, Gonzalez added.

Once released the driver could be facing a charge of DUI causing death.
