ENCINITAS (CNS) - A suspicious device found near an Encinitas school Sunday that prompted the evacuation of a nearby farmers market has been determined not to be dangerous, Sheriff's deputies said.

A passerby reported what appeared to be a pipe bomb on a playground near Paul Ecke Central Elementary School on Union Street, around 2:25 p.m., according to Sheriff's Lt. Jim Duffy. The playground and a nearby farmers market were evacuated as a precaution.

The Sheriff's Bomb/Arson Unit examined the device and determined it to be harmless, Duffy said.
