Tips to reduce holiday stress when entertaining for the season

Kathryn Emery, public relations specialist, stopped by to help prepare homes for the holiday season and hosting guests.

SAN DIEGO (NEWS 8) - The holiday season can be a stressful time as some people host holiday parties and events and prepare for traditions.

Kathryn Emery, a public relations specialist, has some tips on how to cut back on stress and be prepared for all of the holidays.

A good place to start is by decorating the house. Rather than removing the Halloween decorations and adding new decorations for both Thanksgiving and Christmas, Emery suggests finding pieces that work for all of the holidays. A wreath for the front door that has festive colors that work for both Thanksgiving and Christmas saves both money and time decorating. Emery also suggested having house decor that isn't necessarily Christmas themed, but more general with sparkles, bright colors, and rhinestones. Those type of pieces can carry you through to the New Year without having to decorate three different times.

The next step is to keep your house clean. To save time Emery showed us OdoBan, products that do three jobs in one. Each product deodorizes, sanitizes, and disinfects. Most products are multi-surface products as well, meaning it can be used to clean most places in the home. Also consider having drain cleaner on hand to maintain the drains while guests are at the house.

Finally, Emery suggests creating an experience during your gathering by playing games. Family-themed games and games best played after the kids go to bed may bring another dimension to your party.
