A community meeting was held Thursday night to discuss plans to move a convicted child molester into a home in Ramona.

The public was encouraged to attend the meeting at the Ramona Community Center to voice their concerns about the placement of Matthew Hedge. Hedge was sentenced to 12 years in prison in 1989 for molesting four children. He was returned to the Department of Mental Health hospital for violating the terms of his release.

The facility now plans to place Hedge in a 3,750-square-foot home on Highway 67, less than one mile from Hanson Elementary School, two preschools, a Sunday school, at least two school bus stops and a proposed church site.

A court hearing on the matter is scheduled for March 13 at the San Diego Superior Court Department at 1:30 p.m. Written comments are being accepted at the community meeting Thursday, or mailed by Feb. 27 to:
