SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The USO is getting a makeover.

Over 100 volunteers were at the USO Monday morning donating their time to fix up the USO building in downtown San Diego.

Most of the volunteers are from Foresters Financial, an insurance company. Many of the volunteers are from Canada and are in town for a conference at the Hotel Del. The company wanted to do something positive while they were in San Diego and they chose to help out military families. Before their arrival, they sent $18,000 dollars to buy supplies so that when they arrived they would be ready to go. Their goal was to repaint the building and add new furniture in just under two hours.

Many local contractors also stepped up to help, like Anderson Plumbing Heating and Air who came in to redo the plumbing and air conditioning. In addition, volunteers from the USS New Orleans came in yesterday to help prep for the renovations.

The USO center supported over 34,000 military families in 2014 alone and has been in desperate need of repairs.
