After an eight month deployment the USS Nimitz returns home to San Diego this morning.
Thousands of family and friends are expected to welcome back the nearly seven-thousand sailors aboard the carrier, along with three other ships in its strike group, at North Island around 10:30 this morning.
While deployed, they assisted in combat operations in Afghanistan and counter-piracy operations around Africa.
