Vista Unified School District officials voted down a resolution to honor Miss California Carrie Prejean, whose anti-gay comments and nude photos grabbed international headlines.

One board member, Steve Lilly, reported said the district should not "academically honor someone who has posed semi-nude with artificial breasts, and whose stated career goal was to become a Victoria's Secret model."

Only one member of the Vista Unified School District's board favored the honor at Thursday's meeting, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported. Prejean, now 21, graduated from Vista High School. Jim Gibson's motion failed for a lack of a second.

Board chairwoman Carol Herrera told the newspaper she received about 75 e-mails on the issue, most of them against Gibson's resolution. She said she hopes the district will move on from the controversy.

"The more the public came out, the more convinced I was that this was not something we should be involved in," Herrera said.
