SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Sunday, dozens of World War II vets, former nurses and female factory workers were honored at the annual Spirit of '45 celebration.
The event is held to observe the United States' defeat of Japan during World War II. It was held at the Veterans Museum and Memorial Center on Park Blvd.
About 120 veterans were in attendance and very grateful to be there.
"It's really a great thing to be out here and see all these people and get all this acknowledgement and it's of course a great thing that this event happened and that the war was over," WWII veteran James Brown said.
In 2010, Congress unanimously passed the national Spirit of '45 Day to be observed on the second Sunday in August.
