Groovin' with Garegnani: playing polo for the first time

The polo community welcomed News 8 with open arms. Could polo be your new horseback hobby?

POWAY, Calif. — San Diego may be known for its beaches and beautiful weather, but another aspect of San Diego seldom talked about is its equestrian scene. Sure, people know about Del Mar and the famous racetrack, but did you know you could take polo lessons in Poway?

We know what you're thinking: "Polo is for those with thick wallets and fun shorts!"

However, that isn't the case at the Poway Polo Club.

News 8's Jake Garegnani decided to take a crack at polo. Even with little to no experience on a horse, Jake was welcomed with open arms to this community of eclectic horse riders that gave him a crash course on the game.

Unlike high-maintenance grass, the Poway arena has a dirt base, which allows owners to keep the budget down and their lessons more affordable.

Don't be shy if you have an interest in horses, polo or just want to try something new. For more information on the Poway Polo Club, click here.
