San Diego State raises conference championship banner before Saturday’s game

Typically, a conference championship banner is raised at the beginning of the next season, but the team wanted to honor the seniors.

SAN DIEGO — Fans packed into Viejas Arena at San Diego State to celebrate the team’s Mountain West Conference championship. The team raised their 12th conference championship banner before tip-off of their game against UNLV.

The 2019 Mountain West Conference championship was the first for the school since 2016. Typically, a conference championship banner is raised at the beginning of the next season, but the team wanted to honor the seniors that have been apart of the magical season they are in the midst of.

The team also honored senior Matt Mitchell for his 1,000 points scored as a member of the Aztecs.

The team has three games left before the conference tournament. After Saturday the team hosts Colorado State on Tuesday then finishes the season on the road in Reno against the University of Nevada next Saturday.
