Chargers donate turf field to local school

A Barrio Logan school that serves homeless children has a brand new turf field thanks to a generous donation from the San Diego Chargers.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A Barrio Logan school that serves homeless children has a brand new turf field thanks to a generous donation from the San Diego Chargers.

The Bolts presented Monarch School with a $24,000 grant that allowed the campus to add the turf field. Several Chargers players were on hand Tuesday to unveil the field, and they even challenged the kids to a game of soccer.

"It's a great opportunity to get out there and have fun with them. The turf field is an awesome opportunity for them to play soccer in a safe environment where they can enjoy," Chargers safety Darrell Stuckey said.

The grant was presented to the school by the Chargers Champions program, which has donated $5 million to local schools in the past 15 years.
