San Diegans prepare for traffic closures during Trump's visit

As of Wednesday morning, San Diego Police had begun closing down streets in downtown.

SAN DIEGO — President Donald J. Trump will hold a lunch fundraiser at the U.S. Grant Hotel in downtown San Diego Wednesday, and nearby businesses are gearing up for what could be a chaotic day.

By Tuesday afternoon, San Diego police had begun placing no parking signs near the U.S. Grant Hotel, which is located on Broadway, between Third and Fourth Street.

As of Wednesday morning, roads had begun to be shut down. According to News 8's Chris Gros, westbound traffic on Broadway had been shut down from 5th Avenue to 2nd Avenue. San Diego Police Department says residents should expect temporary road closures, and should avoid a square including Beech Street to G Street and Front Street to 7th Avenue.

Drivers are urged to leave early to their destinations and/ or find alternative routes in and out of downtown San Diego.

Martin San Roman is the head chef at Dobson’s Bar and Restaurant and said he was surprised when heard the president would be in San Diego.

Trump’s San Diego visit comes after visiting San Francisco and Los Angeles. San Diego demonstrators are expected to greet the president in downtown. A baby Trump balloon is expected to fly near Horton Plaza around 9 a.m.

“We will probably have him [baby Trump balloon] inflated and ready by nine. Emotionally, he is a child. He is a baby and we are showing that right back to him,” said Chris West, a protest organizer.
