Best and worst days to fill up your gas tank in San Diego

The recent sharp increases are the result of a series of refinery issues that have reduced supply.

SAN DIEGO — The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County rose Thursday for the 24th consecutive day, increasing 3.5 cents to $3.943, its highest amount since Aug. 3, 2015.

The average price has risen 30 of the past 31 days, increasing 62.1 cents, including 4 cents on Wednesday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 24.1 cents more than one week ago, 62.1 cents higher than one month ago and 38.2 cents greater than one year ago.

The recent sharp increases are the result of a series of refinery issues that have reduced supply, according to Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager.

According to a study provided to USA TODAY by GasBuddy, the fuel-savings app that tracks real-time data from more than 150,000 gas stations throughout the country, Monday is the best day on average nationwide to fill up and Friday is the worst day.

Drivers who fill up exclusively on Friday could save $20 to $30 more a year by switching to Monday, according to GasBuddy.

For San Diegans, your best bet is to fill up early on Mondays and try to avoid filling up on Sundays.
