SAN DIEGO — A major change for commuters who use Friars Road to connect to State Route 163 freeway has gone into effect.
Caltrans says the off-ramp from northbound SR-163 to eastbound Friars Road is permanently closed.
On Wednesday, drivers wanting to head eastbound on Friars Road will use the current westbound exit and then use a traffic signal to turn left
It's part of a $40 million redesign of the interchange to alleviate congestion and improve safety.
