A cloudy start to the week with a slight chance for showers on Thursday & Friday | San Diego Local Forecast

A strong marine layer kicked off the week. Patchy drizzle can't be ruled out through Tuesday morning. We'll see a better afternoon clearing on Tuesday.

SAN DIEGO — We're off to a mild start to the week following a pleasant weekend with plenty of sunshine east of the coast. If you noticed the clouds along coastal water, expect those to remain. Daily marine layer clouds will lead to overcast skies each morning before the afternoon stretch gives a better opportunity for some sun starting Tuesday.

Onshore flow and a coastal eddy are the reasons for the stubborn clouds on Monday. As this setup continues, there is a slight chance for patchy drizzle tonight through Tuesday morning.

A cooler weather pattern will setup over Southern California this week as an area of low pressure moves closer to the coast. This will intensify the onshore flow which will make for a deeper marine layer. This means the beaches will be hard pressed to see sunny skies through the week. Temperatures will be 4 to 7 degrees below our seasonal average for the coast and inland.

The low pressure is expected to move through Thursday which will bring a slight chance of showers from the coast to the mountains. As of Monday, there's very little indication that this will be a major rain-maker. The most favorable time frame looks to be Wednesday night through Thursday and again Thursday night through Friday with another low closing in on the region. By Friday afternoon and into the weekend, dry skies will return and likely remain long-term.

AT THE COAST:

Surf has shifted back to a spring pattern. Expect the surf to be 2 to 4 feet with a moderate risk of rip currents through Wednesday.
