SAN DIEGO — It will be a dry remainder of the work week. Expect mostly sunny skies beyond sunrise as temperatures make their way into the 60s. San Diego County will enjoy dry conditions through Friday ahead of another incoming storm that will likely bring rain, gusty winds, and cooler temperatures this weekend.
The dry and sunny conditions are courtesy of a weak high pressure system still over the region. The peak of the heat was felt on Wednesday with a few 70s popping up inland. Thursday will bring slight cooler temperatures, even below seasonal. But, they will take more of a hit into the weekend as onshore flow picks up.
THURSDAY TEMPERATURES:
AT THE COAST:
High surf along the coast is up to 3 to 5 feet. It will stay in that range through Friday with a high risk of rip currents at our local beaches.
After mild conditions for much of the work week, there is a much better opportunity for rain to arrive Saturday and chances will last through early Monday morning. Models suggest moderate to heavy rain possible during this period, especially from late Friday night through Saturday. This will be due to a deep dip in the jet stream tapping into an atmospheric river.
Models suggest up to 1 to 2 inches of rain possible, west of the mountains, with up to 3" possible in the mountains this weekend. The desert could see up to 0.50". This is due to the one-two punch of this system. First comes the atmospheric river, then comes the actual low pressure system moving over the region. The close proximity of the low will make scattered showers with isolated thunderstorms possible on Sunday.
Please note, these totals are subject to change in the days ahead.
Additionally, the snow level could drop near 5,000' to 5,500' Sunday morning. Therefore, snow in our local mountains will be possible.
We could see lingering showers early Monday morning. That activity could linger into the afternoon hours for the mountains. High pressure will start to rebuild over the start of next week and lead to more sunshine and a gradual warm up.
