A mild week continues with another storm set for this upcoming weekend | San Diego Weather Forecast

Mostly dry conditions win out across the county for most of this week, but sights are set on wet weather returning by the weekend to end the month of March.

SAN DIEGO — It will be a dry remainder of the work week. Expect mostly sunny skies beyond sunrise as temperatures make their way into the 60s. San Diego County will enjoy dry conditions through Friday ahead of another incoming storm that will likely bring rain, gusty winds, and cooler temperatures this weekend.

The dry and sunny conditions are courtesy of a weak high pressure system near the region. The peak of the heat was felt on Wednesday with a few 70s popping up inland. Thursday was slightly, even below seasonal. But, they will take more of a hit into the weekend as onshore flow picks up.

After mild conditions for much of the work week, there is a much better opportunity for rain to arrive Saturday and chances will last through the first half of Monday. Models suggest moderate to heavy rain possible during this period, especially from late Friday night through Saturday. This will be due to a deep dip in the jet stream tapping into an atmospheric river.

Models suggest up to 1 to 2 inches of rain possible, west of the mountains, with up to 3" possible in the mountains this weekend. The desert could see up to 0.50". A Flood Watch has been issued for San Diego County from the coast to the mountains. Flooding will be a concern, especially on Saturday.

*Please note, these totals are subject to change.

This is due to the one-two punch of this system. First comes the atmospheric river, then comes the actual low pressure system moving over the region. The close proximity of the low will make scattered showers with isolated thunderstorms possible on Sunday.

Additionally, this cold system is anticipated to bring snow to our local mountains. Snow projections are 1 to 4 inches with it being heavy at times. This will lead to slippery roads and other hazardous driving conditions, especially on Saturday night through Sunday. The snow level will start at 6,500' on Saturday afternoon and lower to 5,000' on Saturday night. It will be around 4,500' to 5,500' on Sunday. A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for our local mountains.
