SAN DIEGO (NEWS 8) - Mother Nature put on quite the lightning show Friday night across San Diego and San Diegans captured it across social media.

The National Weather Service said scattered showers and thunderstorms would develop along the coast and inland valleys Friday night into the weekend.

The system that made its way through San Diego Friday night brought some measurable rain. According to the NWS, as of Friday night these were the rain totals:

  • Oceanside Harbor: 0.45"
  • Fashion Valley: 0.38"
  • San Diego Airport: 0.35"
  • Oceanside: 0.28"
  • Laguna Hills: 0.27"
  • Lower Oso Creek (Orange County): 0.23"

Drivers are being warned about slick roads and asked to remember to slow down.

Friday night's rain and lighting also cancelled the Chula Vista High School's homecoming game. The game had kicked off with U.S. Navy Leapfrogs, but after a rain and lightning delay, the game was cancelled altogether.
