Stand-up paddleboarding lessons with your dog

Stand-up paddleboarding with your dog is a new canine-craze and the Helen Woodward Animal Center is offering classes.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Stand-up paddleboarding with your dog is a new canine-craze and the Helen Woodward Animal Center is offering classes.

SUP is a popular new canine-craze -- perfect for dogs that prefer smooth waters to white water surf -- where pups and their owners have the opportunity to learn from professional instructors.

Those who wish to try Fido's latest favorite fad have one more opportunity to enroll to receive SUP instruction this Saturday, August 23. Class begins at 8:30 a.m at Dog Beach in Del Mar.

All Helen Woodward Animal Center stand-up paddleboarding lessons are limited to five dogs per class and run 70 minutes in length.

Classes cost $45 and include a canine life-vest and paddle board.

This year, for the first time, the beloved Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon will feature a stand-up Paddle Paws Parade.

Proceeds from the classes and the annual competition go toward the animals and programs at Helen Woodward Animal Center.
