LA JOLLA, Calif. (CBS 8 / AP) - Authorities still haven't identified the woman found dead on the cliffs near the Torrey Pines Gliderport.

Lifeguards recovered the body Sunday in an area called Hully Gully, which is right below the hang glider launching zone. Lifeguard Lt. Andy Lerum reported the body was spotted Sunday by someone on the beach below the cliff.

It's believed she slipped and fell down the cliff Saturday night, but her body wasn't found until Sunday.

"We're just trying to figure out what get her out here," said Tom Wood with the San Diego Police Department. "It's a straight drop and a small ledge and it appears she fell a distance of 30 feet and fell off that another 40 to 45 feet."

A helicopter was called into get the body. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of death was not immediately established. Lerum said the body appeared to have suffered numerous injuries that indicate a fall.

He says rigor mortis had set in, so the body had apparently been there for some time.

A bag and a flashlight were found nearby, but the area was considered too dangerous to retrieve them.

The death is under investigation.
