SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Take a family of talented bakers and artists, mix in some Asian flavors and just a dash of French flair, and you have all the ingredients for the success of the Big Joy Family Bakery and Café.
Dad bakes the artisan breads. The sisters create and decorate specialty cakes and desserts that turn Big Joy's display case into an edible art gallery of traditional desserts with an Asian flair.
"We just make some Asian stuff, such as green tea tiramisu or green tea custard," Soyoung Kim said.
But this bakery is gaining quite a reputation for creating the mack daddy of macaroons.
"This is really popular, little cookies in Paris. We are making some different types of the flavors of the cookie," Soyoung said.
This bakery and café is aptly named, because the Kim family does take big joy in working together and pride in the products they create. The proof is in the tasting.
