Under investigation: Drive-by shooting in Morena

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A drive-by shooting was under investigation in San Diego's Morena neighborhood Thursday, police said.

Two people were sitting in a car in the 1400 block of Dorcas Street about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday when a mid-sized SUV with a roof rack drove slowly passed them and someone inside opened fire, according to San Diego police Sgt. David Jennings. The two were not hurt.

Paul Tenner's just glad his wife wasn't inside her car when it was hit. He didn't discover the shot through his wife's windshield until he came outside Thursday morning.

"This just blew my mind. I haven't been able to relax since 7 this morning. What the hell, and Halloween, goodness," he said.

Neighbors heard no fighting and no screams, but several people told us they did hear screeching tires.

"I saw a car speeding down Dorcas, and then I saw another car right after it, kind of speeding down Dorcas," resident Linda Peden said.

Neighbors say police showed up quickly, but the suspects were gone.  Detectives were back in the area Thursday morning and spotted these surveillance cameras.

Detectives aren't saying what the cameras caught, but they made a copy of the video.

"You know, it's the first time this has ever happened since we've been here, and we've been here a while. So it was just random," Tenner said.

Police believe at this point it may have been a drug deal gone bad. Neighbors are just glad it happened last night instead of tonight when there will be trick-or-treaters out.

"It's a great neighborhood. It's lovely, great. People walk all the time, night and day, and everybody watches out for everybody else, which is the way it should be," Tenner said.
