Posted: Updated:

ESCONDIDO (CBS 8) - An Escondido man is recovering after a close call with a rattlesnake. It happened Saturday at Hilltop Park in Rancho Penasquitos.

Jason Hooper, 39, saw a baby rattler slithering just 10 feet away from kids at a birthday party. He was bitten on the finger when he tried to remove it.

Hooper was hospitalized and got very sick but after a few days, he pulled through.

Baby rattlers are typically considered more dangerous than adults because they release all of their venom at once.
