Lucian's success story

If you follow the local music scene, you may recognize the family in this Adopt 8. The parents are musicians and founders of San Diego IndieFest and adopting their son Lucian has brought them the most beautiful form of harmony. This is Lucian's success story.

Two-year-old Lucian will never know any other life - all of his milestones have been captured on video by his proud parents, to treasure.

Danielle and Alicia welcomed their son into the world on the day of his birth. They said he was a voluntary relinquishment.

Before Lucian was even born, his biological parents had thoughtfully selected Danielle and Alicia as his forever family.

“I was told by birth mother that um, we just looked like so much fun in the pictures,” said Alicia.

Danielle is the lead singer of the band, Danielle Lopresti and the Masses. She and Alicia are also the founders of San Diego IndieFest, which features independent artists.

And they say their son Lucian couldn't have been a more perfect fit for their family.

“Lucian, miraculously, loves to play drums,” continued Alicia. “He's very musical, has an innate sense of music. And he'll just dance. He'll want to dance for hours and hours and express through his body, it's really just so beautiful.”

Alicia and Danielle say they are so grateful to Lucian's birth mother for the wonderful blessing of their son.

“She's really special, and we have to love her I mean she, she picked us you know. We have to, we have to honor her always, for the rest of our days,” said Alicia.

After several attempts to adopt internationally failed, their path led them to San Diego County Adoptions.

“There's support, there's understanding and there's just no discrimination. That's what it comes down to,”

Danielle says Lucian was also her main inspiration to get better when she was diagnosed with cancer last year. After intense treatment, she is now cancer free and enjoying every moment with her family.

“For us, adoption is the most wonderful beautiful thing we've ever done in our lives,” added Danielle.

And they encourage more people to consider adoption.

“Family is created by a spiritual connection, not a blood connection,” said Danielle. “There's so many kids in this world that need families, you know? I think that if people had one tiny peek into how good it feels to be a family this way that so many more people would do it, so many more people would do it.”
