19 razor blades found at Bonita Cove Park

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - After a seven-year-old boy cut his foot on a razor blade planted at Bonita Cove Park, police swept the park with metal detectors looking for razor blades pushed in the grass and found a total of 19 razor blades Wednesday night.

“I've got children and I can't imagine this happening,” said SDPD Lt. Paul Phillips.

A Poway mother alerted police when her son, Tristan, stepped on a razor blade and sliced his barefoot.

"It was a razor blade,” said Cassie Padilla. “It's really deep.”

The mother says her 15-year-old son, Daniel, also found another razor blades by the park bench that was protruding out of the ground.

“Immediately after him [Tristan] he [Daniel] stepped on another one, he just got nicked,” said Padilla.

The family was picnicking with cousins from Idaho. Paramedics wrapped the seven-year-old boy's foot and his mother took him to the emergency room to get stitches.

“The first thing that would come to mind is sickness and frustration,” said Lt. Phillips.

CBS News 8 archives show police were called to Bonita Cove Park three times in 2013 to find razor blades purposely planted in the grass, the playground and sandbox.

"Can you imagine with children around here? This is not a prank this is a sickness or someone who has an evil mind,” said lt. Phillips.

Police were meticulous and kept digging until they found all 19 razors.

"Anyone who was out here today that saw anyone acting suspicious we would really appreciate a call,” Lt. Phillips.

No suspects have been caught but police say they want to catch potential copycats.

"I think that's crazy that anyone would do that,” said Padilla.

Police will analyze the razor blades to find any evidence the suspects may have left behind.

Anyone with information about the razor blades is asked to call the San Diego Police Department at (619) 531-2293 or San Diego County Crime Stoppers' anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477.
