Jimbo's Naturally raises minimum wage for workers

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - City Council President Todd Gloria had lunch at Jimbo's Naturally grocery store Monday to support the local chain's decision to raise the minimum wage for its employees to $10 an hour.

Gloria was joined by other council members at the store's Horton Plaza location. A proposal to raise the minimum wage in San Diego is currently before the City Council.

The owner of Jimbo's says the decision to raise wages was an easy one.

"Employees are happier, maybe they take care of customers in a better way, the volume goes up. The bottom line doesn't seem to be impacted. If it is, it seems to be impacted in a positive way," Jimbo's owner Jimbo Someck said.

The City Council is expected to vote on the minimum wage proposal Monday night. If ultimately approved, the minimum wage would increase to $9.75 in January.
