SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 70-year-old man arrested on suspicion of stabbing a woman near Belmont Park because her smoking bothered him was charged Tuesday with assault with a deadly weapon and making a criminal threat.
Terrance Alphonce Behan was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday, but the plea hearing was postponed until tomorrow after he told Judge David Szumowski that he couldn't hear what was being said in court.
The alleged assault happened about 10:30 a.m. Friday in the 3000 block of Mission Boulevard.
A prosecutor said Behan stabbed a 54-year-old woman in the chest, then threatened another man and his family before being arrested.
Behan was ordered held without bail pending arraignment.
