FALLBROOK (CNS) - The California Highway Patrol Wednesday sought the hit-and-run driver who struck a motorcyclist on Interstate 15 near Fallbrook, causing him to be thrown into the roadway where he was struck by a box truck and killed.

A 28-year-old San Diego man on a 2011 Yamaha R-1 motorcycle was splitting lanes at about 30 to 35 miles per hour on the northbound freeway, north of state Route 76, when he was struck by a cream-colored sedan that was changing lanes around 5:40 p.m. Tuesday, CHP Officer Jim Bettencourt said.

The collision sent the rider into the lanes and he was fatally struck by a box truck, Bettencourt said, adding that the sedan's driver continued on after the crash.

The sedan likely has damage from the crash on the passenger's side door or near the front, and possibly blue paint transfer, according to Bettencourt.

The driver was described as white and possibly in his 30s, and his passenger was a blond man with a red goatee, the officer said.

Anyone who saw the crash or has information about the hit-and-run driver was asked to call the CHP at (760) 757-1675 or (858) 637-3800.
